The only way to get the emperor to agree to unconditional surrender was to make the people of Japan afraid of getting bombed into obliteration.
Hitting military targets with Atomic bombs is like killing a mosquito with a cannon ball.. and Confucius has already warned us not to do that. It would have also provided no incentive for Japan to surrender... So you demolish 1 plane factory and the surrounding 15 miles... what do the people of Japan care about that?
The invasion of Japan (X Day) would have cost millions and millions of lives on both sides, theirs and ours. I actually think that dropping the bombs saved lives in the end. Guerilla warfare and the US military moving door to door through Japan would have been extremely bloody.

Guerilla warfare and the US military moving door to door through Japan would have been extremely bloody. This is justification for a ****** decision by America. It's true a real invasion would of been x100 more costly for both sides, but America had already established several Carriers near the home land and was bombing military installations using the cover of night - rendering japanese AA useless. Sure it still would of been more costly, money wise, but japan had lost control of it's production facilities across the sea and was being enclosed by both American and Austrian troops. Surrender was inevitable as soon as the gas/oil crisis for them hit an all time high - remember, the majority of there war machines were being fueled through Chinese resources, which were eventually cut from them. Japans stubborn, may of held for months, but a siege would of worked and been less costly life wise.... Hopefully. Lol
This is what the battle of Japan would have been like. Except waaaaaaaaaay longer.

No strategic value because of there was nothing of importance to Japan's war effort in either of those cities, they actually weren't really bombed during the entire war I think you and I have different opinions on what a Strategic Target is. The strategic target for a bomb of that size would never have been a military installation.
The Dolittle raiders would have a thing to say about the homeland never being bombed during the entirety of the war.

America did drop two atomic bombs on two japan cites with no strategic value Not that it matters, history is history but wasn't Japan going to sign a peace treaty but in fear, the USA bombed Japan 2 or 3 days before the signing? Its part of ww2 I don't know much about really, that specific part. The point from the beginning was to force Japan into unconditional surrender. That means a total surrender with no stipulations. Japan had come looking for a treaty several times during the war but there were all conditions like they got to keep their naval military in tact. There was no way in hell the US was going to let that happen and come to find out years after that Japan had been working on a nuclear program of their own and were probably about 3-6 months away from testing their first atom bomb. Combine that with a still intact Navy and there was a possibility for them to come bomb our mainland with atom bombs.
Enough history... what's done is done... just try not to repeat the mistakes of the past.
PS.. I heard Kujo and Rampage like tacos... can someone confirm this??

Can we talk about fruit instead? Who likes bananas? Plantains are THE best fruit ever. Especially fried. I've been inside a "plantains" before... it was filled with fruits!

bigolenuts wrote:I was on a boat, in the Sea of Japan when the bombs were dropped. Ghost (whatever his names is) were drinking saki and smoking Lucky Strikes on the deck. He said, and I will quote, "let me call my cousin, he is like the President or something. I know we have these 200 warriors ready to swarm the shores, but he has the new weapon-thingy that can end it all". We see the planes fly over the next few weeks and then the following explosions. Ghost (whatever his name is) looked at me and said, "told ya brah, my uncle is quite the strategist. I knew he would come through". Ghost (whatever his name is) then lit another Lucky Strike and hit it Andrew "Dice" Clay style with his arm wrapped around his head. Coolest thing I have ever seen. On a different subject... there seem to be more and more of these Axis of Chaos fools running around... you think it is time for a hostile takeover?
